Amboseli sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and its open plains offer some of Africa's most iconic photographic compositions — large elephant herds moving across short-grass savanna with the snow-capped summit behind them. The park's swamps, fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro, sustain dense populations of hippos, buffaloes, and plains game. Dawn light striking the mountain above the dust-hazed plain produces conditions favoured by wildlife photographers worldwide.
