The third-largest emirate and designated Cultural Capital of the Arab World, Sharjah maintains a dense concentration of museums, heritage areas, and art spaces within its central districts. The restored Heart of Sharjah heritage quarter encompasses souks, mosques, and courtyard houses set around a creek waterfront. The emirate also administers enclaves on the Gulf of Oman coast, including the mangrove-fringed Khor Kalba, home to the southernmost stand of mangroves in Arabia.
