The King Faisal Mosque is the largest mosque in the emirate of Sharjah and one of the biggest in the United Arab Emirates. Opened in the late 1980s and named after the Saudi king who helped fund it, the building combines a large central dome with a broad, rectangular prayer hall and a single tall minaret. It can hold tens of thousands of worshippers and doubles as a centre for religious study and community events. Positioned in the heart of Sharjah, it is a familiar orientation point in the cultural district.
