Čičmany is a small highland village in the Rajčanka valley of northwestern Slovakia, distinguished by the distinctive white geometric patterns painted over the dark timber facades of its log houses. The decorative motifs, derived from embroidery patterns, cover entire house exteriors in a system unique to this village and dating from rebuilding work following an 1832 fire. The village has been comprehensively protected as a folk architecture reserve and inspired patterns used in Slovak design.
