Sfântu Gheorghe is a remote fishing village at the southernmost distributary mouth of the Danube Delta, where the river finally meets the Black Sea across a broad beach of fine sand. The village is reachable only by boat from Tulcea and retains a quiet, end-of-the-world character valued by nature photographers and birdwatchers. The delta channels around the village host dense colonies of white pelicans, pygmy cormorants, and Eurasian spoonbills during the breeding season.
