Bicaz Gorge cuts through the Eastern Carpathians along a 5-kilometre section of the Bicaz River, where limestone walls soar up to 300 metres above the road. The narrowest section, known locally as the Neck of Hell, squeezes the road and river together beneath overhanging cliffs that block direct sunlight through much of the day. Photographers seek the dramatic light angles at the gorge's wider sections in late afternoon.
