Lake Lugano is a glacially carved lake shared between Switzerland and Italy, its convoluted shoreline creating several bays and peninsulas covered in subtropical vegetation. The lake is deeper than it is wide in several places, and its shores rise steeply to forested ridgelines. The Ceresio peninsula between the two main arms of the lake contains the village of Morcote, whose terraced houses above the water are considered among the most picturesque in Switzerland.
