Château de Chillon is a medieval island castle on the eastern shore of Lake Geneva, near Veytaux, extending from a rocky promontory into the lake. The castle's complex of 25 buildings dates primarily from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries under the House of Savoy. Its dramatic position at the water's edge, with the Dents du Midi rising across the lake, has attracted artists and writers since the Romantic period.
