Kandersteg is a village at the head of the Kander Valley in the southern Bernese Oberland, beneath the Blüemlisalp and Doldenhorn massifs. It serves as the trailhead for the hike to Oeschinen Lake and connects via cable car to the Sunnbüel plateau for access to higher alpine terrain. The village is also the northern portal for the car-carrying Lötschberg Tunnel through the Alps.
