Descending 380 metres in three successive cascades through a gorge on the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park, the Krimml Waterfalls are the highest in Austria and among the most powerful in Europe by volume. A marked trail with numerous viewpoint platforms rises alongside all three falls, passing through a spray zone that sustains lush mosses and ferns. The trail continues beyond the top cascade to give access to the high alpine valleys of the Tauern.
