The largest national park in the Alps, Hohe Tauern protects over 1,800 square kilometres of the central Eastern Alps in the states of Salzburg, Carinthia, and Tyrol. The park encompasses more than 300 glaciers, 300 three-thousand-metre peaks, and the Krimml Waterfalls — the highest in Austria. Brown bears, bearded vultures, and golden eagles inhabit its protected valleys and high alpine zones.
