At 2,962 metres, the Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain, straddling the German–Austrian border above the resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Accessed by rack railway and cable car, the summit plateau hosts a weather station, a cross visible from far across the Bavarian Alps, and unobstructed 360-degree views on clear days extending into Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. The surrounding Zugspitzplatt glacier, though significantly reduced, remains the largest in Germany.
