Struga is a small town at the southern end of Lake Ohrid where the Black Drin River exits the lake, its shorefront promenade and old bridge providing a quieter alternative to the better-known Ohrid. The town hosts an international poetry festival dating from 1961 that has attracted Nobel Prize laureates and established Struga as a cultural landmark within the former Yugoslav space. The abundance of trout in the outflowing river historically supported a fishing economy and the fish remain a local culinary speciality.
