The ancient theatre at Epidaurus, constructed in the fourth century BCE and attributed to the architect Polykleitos the Younger, is considered the best-preserved and most acoustically sophisticated ancient theatre in Greece. The cavea seats approximately 14,000 spectators on 55 tiers cut into a natural hillside, and the geometry of the design creates near-perfect acoustic conditions audible even from the highest rows. The theatre is part of the Sanctuary of Asklepios, a renowned ancient healing centre whose other remains include a tholos, gymnasium, and stadium.
