The national park encompasses the five coastal villages—Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore—along with their terraced agricultural hinterland of dry-stone-walled vineyards and olive groves on the Ligurian Riviera di Levante. Centuries of human effort carved hundreds of kilometres of dry-stone terracing into vertical schist cliffs above the sea. Trails within the park range from the accessible clifftop Via dell'Amore section to demanding ridge paths with sea views.
