The northernmost town in Denmark, situated near Grenen where the Skagerrak and Kattegat seas converge at the tip of the Jutland Peninsula. The late-19th-century Skagen Painters colony transformed the exceptional quality of North Jutland light into a celebrated national artistic tradition, and the Skagen Museum preserves their works. The dune-buried Tilsandede Kirke — a medieval church engulfed by wind-driven sand — is a landmark a short distance from the town.
