Historic City of Sucre

Bolivia's constitutional capital gleams white in the Andes. Established under Spanish rule in the first half of the 1500s, Sucre served as the country's first capital, and churches like San Francisco, Santo Domingo and San Lázaro show how European styles were reworked by local builders. Its whitewashed core remains among the best-preserved colonial ensembles in Spanish America, and UNESCO inscribed the Historic City of Sucre in 1991.
