This large theatre in Budapest, opened in 1911, serves as the second opera stage of the Hungarian State Opera and is named after the composer Ferenc Erkel, author of the national opera. With one of the biggest auditoriums in the country, it stages opera and ballet for large audiences, especially while the main opera house undergoes renovation. Located near the Keleti railway station, it was restored in the 2010s. Its capacity and role as a companion to the ornate main house make it an important part of the city's operatic infrastructure.
