The Goetheturm is a wooden observation tower on the wooded southern edge of Frankfurt, first built in 1931 and long one of the tallest timber towers in Germany at about 43 metres. A popular destination for families and hikers in the Stadtwald forest, it offered a staircase to a viewing platform above the treetops. The original tower was destroyed by an arson fire in 2017, prompting a public fundraising campaign, and a faithful timber reconstruction reopened in 2020 with the surrounding park and forest trails.
