A large covered market in the La Latina district of Madrid, this hall stands on a site that has hosted trade since at least the nineteenth century, its present steel-framed structure recognisable by an undulating roofline. Stalls sell fish, meat, produce, cheeses and household goods to the surrounding neighbourhood, and in recent years bars and tasting counters have brought a livelier social dimension. Less polished than the tourist gourmet halls elsewhere, it retains a working, local character in old Madrid.
