Vegueta is the historic colonial quarter of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the oldest continuously inhabited district in the Canary Islands, established after the Spanish conquest in the late 15th century. Cobblestone streets lined with ornate balconied buildings in traditional Canarian style converge on the Plaza de Santa Ana, dominated by the Cathedral of Santa Ana whose construction spanned four centuries. The Casa de Colón, a former governor's house where Columbus allegedly stayed before his first voyage, now operates as a museum of the Age of Discovery.
