The principal covered market in the historic centre of Lima, this hall and the crowded blocks around it form the traditional food-supply core of the Peruvian capital. Inside, vendors sell fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, cheeses and Andean specialities, while adjoining streets host stalls of dried goods and kitchenware. Neighbouring the city's Chinatown, it reflects the mixed culinary heritage that shaped Peruvian cuisine. Its aisles of tropical fruit and native tubers survey the country's agricultural diversity.
