Thu Le Park in western Hanoi combines a landscaped park with the city's zoo, set around a natural lake among low hills. Opened in the 1970s, its shaded paths, flower plantings and pedal-boat lake draw families, while the adjoining zoo houses a range of native and exotic animals. The undulating terrain and old trees give it a more varied landscape than the flat inner-city parks. Popular on weekends, it serves as a combined green space and children's outing destination for residents of the surrounding districts.
