The original market square of Kuala Lumpur, this old plaza sits near the confluence of the two rivers where the city was founded by tin miners in the nineteenth century. Once the commercial heart where traders gathered, it is ringed by pre-war shophouses with ornate facades. At its center stands an Art Deco clock tower built to mark a royal coronation. Long overshadowed by newer districts, the square has drawn renewed attention as part of efforts to revive the historic old town along the riverside where the capital began.
