Jamek Mosque stands at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, the very spot where Kuala Lumpur was founded, and is among the oldest mosques in the city. Completed in 1909 to an Indo-Saracenic design, it features onion domes, striped brickwork, and shaded arcades set among palm trees at the water's edge. For decades it served as the principal mosque of the capital before the National Mosque was built. Its riverside setting, now framed by a modern fountain project, makes it a favoured photographic subject.
