Kim Lien Pagoda, the Golden Lotus Pagoda, sits on the eastern shore of West Lake in Hanoi and is admired for one of the finest surviving traditional gateways in northern Vietnam. Its origins reach back several centuries, though the present triple-roofed wooden structures date largely from an eighteenth-century reconstruction. The tiered gate and interlocking bracket roofs display the refined carpentry of the late Le period, and the interior shelters lacquered statues and antique steles.
