The Green Mosque of Bursa was completed around 1421 for Sultan Mehmed I and marks a turning point in early Ottoman architecture toward a distinctly imperial style. It takes its name from the blue-green İznik tiles that line the interior, especially the richly decorated sultan's loge and the mihrab. The T-shaped plan, carved marble portal and inscriptions rank it among the finest monuments of the first Ottoman capital. A companion tomb across the street, the Green Tomb, shares the same tilework and completes the ensemble.
