Located in a plaza off Insurgentes Avenue in Mexico City, this monument pays tribute to motherhood. Unveiled in 1949, it centers on a stone sculpture of a mother cradling her child, set before a tall carved backdrop and framed by a broad staircase and reflecting pools, with an inscription describing her as she "who loved before existing." A 2017 earthquake damaged the structure, prompting restoration. Popular on Mexican Mother's Day each May, it reflects the strong cultural emphasis on maternal figures in the country's public art.
