Rising over the Plaza de la República in central Mexico City, this immense domed monument commemorates the Mexican Revolution of 1910. It began as the frame of a never-finished legislative palace under Porfirio Díaz; after the revolution the surviving steel skeleton was reworked in Art Deco style into a triumphal arch. Its four piers hold the remains of revolutionary leaders including Madero, Villa and Carranza. A glass elevator now carries visitors to a viewing deck beneath the copper dome, and a museum below tells the story of the conflict.
