This slender stainless-steel spire rises from O'Connell Street in the centre of Dublin, soaring roughly 120 metres and tapering to a needle-thin illuminated tip. Completed in 2003 and officially titled the Monument of Light, it was built on the site once occupied by Nelson's Pillar, which was destroyed by a bomb in 1966. Its reflective surface catches changing daylight and glows at night. Intended as a symbol of the city's regeneration, it has become a familiar meeting point and landmark.
