The Luxor Museum on the east bank of the Nile presents a carefully selected collection of antiquities from the temples and tombs of ancient Thebes. Rather than overwhelming visitors, it emphasises quality, with beautifully lit sculpture, reliefs and grave goods displayed against dark walls. Highlights include statues recovered from a cache beneath Luxor Temple and objects associated with the New Kingdom pharaohs. A hall dedicated to the military might of ancient Egypt and two royal mummies broaden the story.
