The Carthage National Museum stands on the Byrsa hill above the ancient city, once the citadel of the great Phoenician and later Roman metropolis. Its collections gather finds from the surrounding archaeological zone, including Punic funerary stelae, sculpture, mosaics, pottery and everyday objects. Displays trace the rise of Carthage, its rivalry with Rome and its rebirth as a Roman capital of Africa. The hilltop terrace offers panoramic views over the ruins and the Gulf of Tunis.
