A museum of the English domestic interior set in eighteenth-century almshouses in Hoxton, now operating as the Museum of the Home. Its signature feature is a chronological sequence of period living rooms showing how middle-class households furnished their spaces from 1600 to the present. Restored almshouse rooms reveal the humbler lives of the pensioners once housed there, and walled gardens recreate historic planting styles. Exhibitions examine changing ideas of comfort, privacy and family life.
