Dennis Severs' House

An immersive historic house in Spitalfields staged as if a family of Huguenot silk weavers had just stepped out of each room. The artist Dennis Severs created a still-life drama across ten rooms, filling them with half-eaten meals, flickering candles and lingering scents to evoke life between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Visitors move through in near silence, guided by atmosphere rather than labels. Evening candlelit visits heighten the sense of intruding on absent occupants.
