This grand civic building faces King George Square in the centre of Brisbane and was for a time one of the most costly buildings erected in Australia. Completed in 1930, its sandstone facade, portico and imposing clock tower reflect the ambitions of a growing city. Inside, a circular auditorium beneath a dome hosts concerts and civic events, while other rooms house the Museum of Brisbane. Visitors can ride a heritage lift up the clock tower for views across the city and out to the surrounding hills.
