This memorial commemorates Juscelino Kubitschek, the president who ordered the construction of Brasília in the late 1950s. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and opened in 1981, it holds the leader's tomb beneath a domed chamber lined with coloured glass, along with exhibits of his personal belongings, cars and library. A tall curved pedestal crowned by a statue of Kubitschek with a raised arm marks the entrance beside the Monumental Axis. The museum traces the ambitious planning and rapid building of the capital in the interior highlands.
