This modernist church honours St John Bosco, whose vision was linked to the founding of Brasília on the fifteenth parallel. Completed in 1970, its walls are formed by pointed Gothic-style concrete arches filled with stained glass in twelve shades of blue, created by the artist Hubert van Doorne. When sunlight passes through the glass the whole interior glows in shifting tones of indigo and azure. A large Murano-glass chandelier hangs above the nave, and the plain concrete altar keeps attention on the enveloping colour.
