This former railway terminal beside the Mapocho River in Santiago was built for the country's 1910 centennial, its great arched iron-and-glass hall imported from Europe in the belle-époque style. Once the gateway for trains to the coast and north, it closed to rail traffic in the 1980s and was converted into a cultural center hosting fairs, concerts and exhibitions beneath its restored vault. The stone facade and vast interior span make it a landmark of the riverside district.
