Housed in the former royal customs house near Santiago's Plaza de Armas, this museum holds one of Latin America's finest collections of pre-Columbian art, spanning cultures from Mesoamerica to the southern Andes. Ceramics, textiles, goldwork and stone sculpture are displayed with a strong emphasis on aesthetic presentation and regional context. A dedicated hall explores the Indigenous peoples of Chile. The elegant colonial building, with its central patio, complements the collection.
