The National Museum of Ecuador, part of the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana complex beside Parque El Ejido, holds the country's premier collection of pre-Columbian and colonial art. Its galleries display gold work, ceramics and stone sculpture from ancient Andean and coastal cultures, alongside religious paintings of the Quito School and republican-era art. The rounded glass Casa de la Cultura building is itself a Quito landmark. The museum offers a comprehensive overview of Ecuadorian artistic heritage from earliest times to the present.
