The country's foremost art institution, split across two purpose-built pavilions near Central Park. One building presents Cuban painting and sculpture from the colonial era through contemporary work, while the other holds European, ancient and Latin American collections. The Cuban wing is especially strong on the avant-garde generation of the early twentieth century. Bright modernist galleries, a sculpture courtyard and rotating exhibitions make it a comprehensive survey of the island's visual culture.
