The Alberta Legislature Building overlooks the North Saskatchewan River valley in Edmonton, a Beaux-Arts structure of sandstone and granite completed in 1913 and crowned by a large dome. Set in landscaped grounds with fountains and reflecting pools, it houses the provincial legislative assembly amid marble halls and a grand rotunda. The building stands near the site of the original fur-trading fort around which the city grew. Free tours explain its architecture and the workings of the provincial government.
