The British Columbia Parliament Buildings face the Inner Harbour of Victoria, a monumental complex of domed neo-baroque pavilions completed in 1897 to house the provincial legislature. Designed by architect Francis Rattenbury, the stone façades are crowned by a gilded statue of an early explorer and outlined at night by thousands of small lights. Free guided tours lead visitors through the legislative chamber and rotunda. The buildings, together with the neighbouring landmark hotel, define the ceremonial waterfront of the provincial capital.
