Dufferin Terrace is a broad wooden boardwalk perched on the cliff of Old Quebec, stretching in front of the landmark hotel high above the St. Lawrence River. Laid out in the late nineteenth century, it offers panoramic views of the river, the Lower Town and the distant Laurentian hills. Beneath its planks lie the archaeological remains of early governors' residences, opened to visitors in season. In summer street performers and strollers fill the promenade, while in winter a traditional toboggan slide runs along one end.
