Standing in Nashville's Centennial Park, this is a full-scale replica of the Parthenon of Athens, built originally for the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition and later rebuilt in permanent concrete. Inside stands a towering gilded statue of Athena, recreated with spear, shield, and a small figure of Nike in her hand, the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western Hemisphere. The lower level houses an art museum and casts of the original marble reliefs. The building earned Nashville its nickname as the Athens of the South.
