This golden vertical-lift bridge spans the Sacramento River, linking downtown Sacramento with the city of West Sacramento in Yolo County. Opened in 1935, it replaced an earlier M Street crossing and can raise its central span to let river traffic pass beneath. Originally silver, then repainted several times, it now wears a distinctive gold coat chosen by public vote. The bridge frames views of the Ziggurat building and the state capitol dome, and a pedestrian walkway makes it a popular spot for photographs at sunset.
