This Italianate brick mansion on Monterey Square in Savannah was begun in the 1860s for a great-grandfather of songwriter Johnny Mercer, though the family never lived there. It gained wide fame as the setting of events described in a popular nonfiction book about the city, and was later restored by antiques dealer Jim Williams. Now a house museum, its rooms display an impressive collection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century furniture, paintings, and decorative arts.
