Located beside the berth of the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat in the Charlestown Navy Yard, this museum tells the story of the frigate nicknamed Old Ironsides. Hands-on exhibits let visitors haul a line, fire a simulated cannon, and experience life aboard a nineteenth-century sailing vessel. The collection includes artifacts, ship models, and paintings documenting the vessel's War of 1812 victories. Set within the historic navy yard, a stop on the Freedom Trail, the museum complements a tour of the ship itself moored just outside.
