Set on the grounds of the Soldiers' Home in the northern part of the city, this Gothic Revival cottage served as a seasonal retreat for Abraham Lincoln during much of his presidency. He and his family spent long stretches here to escape the summer heat downtown, and it was here that he developed the Emancipation Proclamation. Restored and opened to the public, the house offers an interpretive tour focused on Lincoln's decisions rather than period furnishings.
