Spread along the western shore of the Tidal Basin, this memorial honors the four-term president through a sequence of four outdoor rooms, one for each of his terms in office. Granite walls, waterfalls, and bronze sculptures depict Depression breadlines, a fireside chat, and Roosevelt seated with his dog. Carved quotations trace the New Deal and World War II, and the design deliberately reveals the president's use of a wheelchair. The cascading water and shaded plantings make it one of the most contemplative memorials in the city.
